Today, throughout the world, there are many different styles of beer glasses used. These glasses include, but are not limited to; Pint glasses, Pilsner glasses, Beer Steins, Flute Glasses, Goblets, Snifters, Beer Boots and Stange and Becher glasses.

The first type of glasses is pint glasses. These are standard glasses for most brew drinkers, which hold an imperial pint of beer. Pints are considered to be good glasses to serve Stouts, porters and English ales in, and often come in several different shapes, which will include conical, jugs and flared topped.

Pilsner Glass are also another very popular glass in which beer is served. This glass is typically used to serve light beers, usually it’s a little smaller than a pint glass. They are tall, slender and have flared tops. Pilsner glasses were created to show off a beer’s color and clarity. Pilsner glasses are also great for maintain a good foam head on the beer.

Beer Steins are generally mugs of beer. They can be made of many different types of materials, but commonly of wood, porcelain, pewter or silver. They are primarily used for German beers. They typically have hinged lids with a lever that can be lifted by using the thumb.

Flutes are commonly used when serving Belgian beers or fruit beers. The narrow shape of flutes helps to keep the beer carbonated while allowing a strong aromatic flavor.

Goblets and Snifters are less commonly used, but still a popular way of serving certain beers. Goblets are bowl shaped, large glasses with a stem. They are more commonly used for heavier beers, such as Belgians, Germans, or many other big sipping beers. Snifters are usually used for serving brandy or cognac, but also will be used on occasion to serve more delicate, romantic beers, which include Belgian, barleywines and wheatwines. Snifters allow you to swirl a beer, which helps release aromatics.

A Beer Boot is another glass type. They are also called, in Germany, Bierstiefeln’s. It is a glass in the shape of a boot. These are often used in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where they are a tradition. It is believe that a general had promised his troops they could drink beer from him boot if they were successful at war, when they returned, he had had a glassmaker fashion a glass into the shape of a boot.
